Sarah Schoderer
DE EVANESCENDO

/ 9

Sarah Schoderer's paintings show a characteristically tinted, slightly shaded use of colour, applied in strong, pasty brush strokes generating the impression of her motives gradually dissolving. Her works is about dissolution and decay. With biographical links not only to the western but also to the arabic culture and traditions the artist focusses in her latest paintings on the loss of the identity of western cultural forms and conventions.

Models and motives, typically from art history or popular culture, seem peculiarly fallen out of time and space. Schoderer's approach to painting is analytical. The formal limitations of the medium, the reduction on a flat two-dimensional presentation, with its possibilities to be explored rather than its limits to be torn down, are a fixpoint of her work. It is the presented that is dissloving not the medium of presentation.

Schoderer has studied Fine Arts with Prof. Christa Näher and Wolfgang Tillmans at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Her work has been shown, among others, in the Heidelberg Art association, in the Neuer Kunstverein Gießen and the Opelvillen Rüsselsheim. In 2012 she was awarded the Charlotte-Prinz artist in residency grant of the City of Darmstadt. In 2013 she has been invited to showing her paintings in Nairobi and Tunis.
